The main feature of Ocean Song is the wooden carvings on the front and back covers, designed and created by myself.  She is a very large journal at approximately 8½ x 10½ x almost 4″. Hand carved from beautiful English Yew. Completely unique as a piece of art, which i will never duplicate. The spine is a woven collage, driftwood, seaglass, shell, lots of fibres, silver embroidery. Linen bindings. The design of the binding allows plenty of room for expansion within the book, room to add your own pictures and inserts etc. without distorting the overall appearance. The pages open out comfortably and the covers lie flat. The page count, counting as you would for a novel, approx 192 pages, I didnt count every single thing you could call a page. There are journaling cards and an additional 36 pages within the removable booklets and a modest amount of added ephemera.  4 hand dyed fabric wallets/pockets. Every page is decorated, while allowing plenty of space for writing. Most if not all pages have silver or gold edges. I used lots of silver and gold paints and shimmering inks to evoke the glittering, jewel-like seas she came from. I have decorated with hand carved stamps, embossing, inking, plant impressions, lots of my own art work, all of which was created specifically for this project. There are 2 full page watercolours, which are included as prints and smaller drawings throughout, some of which are included as originals in the journal which will not be replicated elsewhere. Also handsewn many tiny sequins and jewels. There is a great deal of sewing with metallic threads, as is visible from all the tail ends in the photos. Many jewels hang from the pages, metal, glass, and many semi precious stones too, amazonite, freshwater pearls, various agates, africa turquoise, jaspers, shells and sea glass. There is a special compartment within the inside of the back cover that houses the ‘mermaid looking glass’, also visible through the hole on the outside cover. Many of the pages are my own eco-dyed originals, with aged/torn edges to bring to life the journal described in the story.

The journal has its own unique story, written by myself, as told by Lilly and Lars in the film, where we are given clues as to where the journal came from. (And of course, the other main feature is that the journal is presented with a short film, which I hope you will enjoy watching).

Ocean Song has been a labour of love, taking 6 months to complete the project.

Thankyou so much for your interest in my work.
